Sound redirected through speakers, cannot hear game in headset

First off I am on windows 8.1 with a 64 bit operating system. I am using realtek hd audio manager with the stereo mix setting enabled. I am trying to run my 5.1 speakers through hdmi using amd driver, my turtle beach headset is running through the rear 3.5 mm green jack with the reatek speakers driver. I use stereo mix so sound comes through both at the same time. I have the mic on my headset working through a wireless bluetooth adapter. Everything works great til i launch teamspeak 3 then all sound is directed to the 5.1 surround speakers. I can still hear people talk through teamspeak, my mic still works, but all sounds like my game sound, youtube, you name it only plays through the surround speakers. When i go to sound on my computer and go to playback and test them, the hdmi test makes sounds through my surround sound and so does the realtek where my headset is hooked to the back of my pc with a 3.5 mm jack (green rear jack). the only way i can get the sound back to normal is to uninstall realtek and reinstall it. Once i launch teamspeak 3 again then the same thing happens. I'm totally stumped and cannot find a solution in the forums to this, been searching for days now. thanks to anyone who can solve this.
