Good day friends.
Well, I've come to the point where I feel like I've taken all I can take from the AR15 platform. I've broken the gun down to the firing pin and carefully cleaned it. I've used compressed air on the gas tube in an attempt to blow out any residue residing in it. I've (recently) brought three different brands of ammo to the range to see if my gun was a picky AR and needed a certain type to function properly. I store my firearm properly in an air conditioned place and clean it quite often. I don't even shoot the darn thing that much. Despite all my efforts, however, it still double feeds, short strokes, etc.
The only logical thing I can think of is that the low profile gas block that I had installed was put in incorrectly by the gun smith (I found out later that he was in the process of leaving his business and has since transferred ownership). It would be unethical to me if I was to sell the gun in its current state (it used to function pretty well before I got cute with the low profile gas block), so I took it to a gunsmith who will either correct the install or re-install my factory gas block/front sight.
The weapon is a Del-ton (DTI) AR-15 5.56, chrome lined barrel purchased in 2011. It's my only AR and I've put less than 600 rounds through it. It's in near/like new condition.
There's huge gun show coming up in MS this weekend and I planned on doing a straight-up trade for (another) AK-47. Can anyone talk me out of it? Any idea of the value the AR has? Should I look in to something else in 7.62?
Oh yea, I currently have an AK accompanied by a bit of 7.62, along with a variety of firearms in various categories and classes. This and the current AK I own will be my only long gun semi-auto's (except for the 10/22).
Thanks in advance for the replys.
Thinking of leaving the 556 platform
