I tried this with the following TS servers:
3.0.11.1
3.0.11.3
I could connect to my server just fine when I was on TS Client 3.0.16 and 3.0.14.
But then I updated to 3.0.17 and I could no longer connect to my server.
So I uninstalled and reinstalled, still couldn't connect. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled an earlier version (3.0.16) and I could finally connect to my server again.
It seems that TS Client 3.0.17 does not allow me to connect to my 3.0.11.1 or 3.0.11.3 servers.
